Serena Williams has another chance to win her first Grand Slam title since birth after defeating Anastasija Sevastova in their 66th-minute semi-final in the US Open.
Williams, defeated by Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final in July, won 6-3 and 6-0 against 19th seed Latvian Sevastova.
The 36-year-old American will face Japan’s Naomi Osaka in the final on Saturday after the twentieth star has defeated Madison Keys.
The victory will match Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
“It’s really amazing that a year ago I literally fought for my life in the hospital after having the baby,” said Williams, who lost the US Open last year because of the birth of her kid, Olympia.
“I am very grateful every day that I have the opportunity to practice this sport.”
“No matter what happens in every game, I feel like I’ve already won.”
